Benefiting from the protective effect of the Gironde estuary, the Angludet vineyard displays exceptional viticultural permanence for more than 300 years.
Let’s meet the Sichel family
The work begun by Peter Sichel in 1961 and which he continued for more than forty years allowed the Château Angludet to pick up the threads of its glorious past and gain the recognition of growing numbers of connoisseurs all over the world. Today, Peter and Diana ‘s five sons represents the sixth generation of Sichels involved in viticulture and wine trading, and they work together to develop the family business.

Continuing to write history

Out of the village of Margaux-Cantenac, Angludet benefits from a protected and privileged location. The deep gravel rump on which the vine is planted gives the wines the finesse, elegance, structure and complexity that we seek each year. Three grape varieties are complementary and create a unique blend. A majority of Cabernet Sauvignon blends with the sweetness of Merlot, Petit Verdot represents an important part that allows a connection, a link between the three grape varieties, specific to Angludet wines. The 30 hectares of vines at Château Angludet are planted in one piece, on a gravel ridge in AOC Margaux, surrounded by forest, meadows and crossed by a stream. A particularly protected natural site conducive to the cultivation of vines and the production of fine wines.

Honor the past, embrace the present, celebrate the future

Back in the Middle Ages there were two separate entities: The first, the “Tenure of Pellecahus” was to the East of the brook running through the property. The other was located on a hillock to the west and was known as the “Noble House of Lagrange de Monteil”. These two estates were to join in the seventeenth century, and so Lagrange was born.
Château Lagrange belonged to the same family for almost two centuries, thus maintaining its unity. One of its more charismatic characters was a certain Charles de Branne de Cours, who managed the domain from 1712 to 1746. In the heart of the viticultural revolution, he and his rich Bordeaux family (who also owned Mouton) were to make Lagrange one of the most beautiful Médoc properties.
In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, then United States ambassador, ranked Lagrange as a Third Classified Growth. Jean-Baptiste d’Arbouet sold Lagrange to Jean-Valère Cabarrus, his wife’s nephew, in 1790. Jean-Valère Cabarrus was from a renowned wine merchant family and chose to develop the viticultural activity of the estate.
Lagrange’s heyday was between 1842 and 1875, when Count Duchâtel, Home Secretary to King Louis Philippe, was the owner. His visionary avant-garde approach meant Lagrange was awarded the rank of Third Classified Growth in the official 1855 classification.

Celebrate the future

“Our ultimate goal is to pass the property on to future generations in the most harmonious state of balance possible with ever more virtuous viticulture” Benjamin Sichel

A strong attachment to respect for nature and the development of biodiversity, leads to the establishment of virtuous cultivation practices that are part of a sustainable development approach. Château Angludet is certified under ISO14001 and HVE3 (High Environmental Value level 3). Two new certifications are in the process of being acquired: organic certification and biodynamic certification by Demeter. In 2017, Benjamin Sichel decided to include three different species of fruit trees. A succession of apple, peach and plum trees accompanies the work of the vineyard. Today we have more than 200 trees that are now part of the Angludet wine landscape.
